Introduction
At Ardmac, we are committed to upholding ethical business practices and ensuring that modern slavery and human trafficking do not take place within our organisation or supply chain. In compliance with the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015, this statement outlines the measures we have taken during the financial year to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chain.
Modern slavery is a serious crime affecting millions of individuals globally. It includes offences such as forced labour, human trafficking, servitude, and other forms of exploitation. We recognise that the construction industry is one of the sectors at risk of labour exploitation, and we take our responsibility seriously to prevent and address any potential risks within our business.
Our Business Structure
Ardmac UK is part of Ardmac Group, a leading provider of construction and fit-out services. We operate across the UK, providing high-quality solutions to our clients. Our business model includes direct employment as well as subcontracting arrangements, which necessitate a rigorous approach to ensuring ethical labour practices.
Our Policy and Commitment
We have a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and human trafficking. Our Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy reinforces our commitment to ethical business practices, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. We expect the same high standards from our employees, contractors, suppliers, and business partners.
If we identify any breaches of anti-slavery laws within our supply chain, we will work with the relevant organisations to ensure compliance or terminate business relationships where necessary, as well as notifying the relevant authorities.
Risk Assessment and Due Diligence in Our Supply Chain
Ardmac recognises that our supply chain, including subcontractors, labour agencies, and material suppliers, may pose risks related to modern slavery. To mitigate these risks, we have implemented the following measures:
- Supplier and Contractor Vetting: We conduct thorough background checks and require all suppliers and subcontractors to adhere to our ethical standards.
- Contractual Obligations: Our agreements include clauses that require compliance with modern slavery laws and ethical employment practices.
- Monitoring and Audits: We carry out risk-based assessments and site inspections to ensure that our partners uphold fair labour practices.
- Reporting Mechanisms: We have a confidential reporting system in place for employees and stakeholders to report concerns about unethical labour practices.
Employment Practices
We have robust recruitment policies to prevent exploitation within our workforce, including:
- Ensuring all employees have the legal right to work in the UK.
- Conducting fair and transparent recruitment processes.
- Providing competitive wages in line with industry standards and minimum wage legislation.
- Ensuring employees have access to grievance procedures and whistleblowing channels.
Awareness
We are committed to raising awareness about modern slavery among our employees and supply chain. This includes:
- Encouraging all staff to report any concerns regarding modern slavery or human trafficking.
Reporting Concerns
All of our employees, contractors, and suppliers have a responsibility to report any suspicion of modern slavery. Reports are made through our internal reporting channels or externally via the UK Modern Slavery Helpline at 08000 121 700. In cases of immediate danger, individuals are advised to contact the police on 999.
Continuous Improvement and Future Actions
We will continue to evaluate and improve our approach to combatting modern slavery, including:
- Strengthening our due diligence processes.
- Enhancing our supplier audit framework.
- Collaborating with industry bodies to share best practices.
- Reviewing training platforms to train our staff.
Ardmac is committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards and ensuring that modern slavery has no place in our business or supply chain.
